Meaningful Tattoos by Liz Kry: Music and Life
May 02, 2026
There are those who write diaries, those who take photographs. I chose to imprint the moments
most important in my life directly on the skin.
My meaningful tattoos are not just decorations: they are the story of who I am and where I am going.
The diploma tattoo: voice and family roots
On April 16, 2025 I got into Wonderwall Tattoo Studio in Vimodrone, by the artist Mery, with a specific idea. I wanted to celebrate something that had taken years of work: the LLCM diploma from the West London Academy, achieved on 6 March, which officially made me a top-class singing teacher. In the drawing there is an electric guitar, the instrument I play, and above all the microphone — what gives voice to my voice. The blood of my family also flows inside that drawing: I wanted to honor my great-grandfather Luigi Zecchinelli, orchestra director and guitar teacher. I never met him, but I feel his genes vibrating in my vocal cords. Next to him, the talent of my grandmothers Emma and Berica. It’s a tattoo for artists that speaks of the past and goals: a banner that I carry every time I go on stage with The Lizberries.
The inspiration of Dolores O’Riordan
Crowning the tattoo are the words of the one who opened a world to me: Dolores O’Riordan. I chose a fundamental phrase for me, taken from Ordinary Day: “Always be yourself along the way, living through the spirit of your dreams.”I wanted it on my forearm because, when I hold the microphone on stage with the Lizberries, I want everyone to see it. It’s my manifesto: remember every night who I want to be and why I do what I do.
Celtic roots, elven characters and the people I bring with me
On my other wrist I wear a Celtic cross with Trinity knots. On the right arm there is a bracelet that I designed myself: a weave in which the initials of my three children form a central butterfly with a cross-shaped body. Being a huge fan of Fantasy and The Lord of the Rings, I wanted the other initials written in elven characters. On one side, the people I have on Earth walk with me, on the other, those who await me in Heaven - two worlds united by a bridge that ends, on both sides, with a treble and a bass clef.
Where it all began: The Little Lizard and The Lizards
Moving down towards the ankle, there is the granddaddy of all my tattoos: I got it when I was 27. A small stylized lizard that represents the beginning of everything — the project of my unreleased songs, The Lizards.
It’s simple but essential, because that’s where I started baring my soul through my songs. Every time I go on stage, I’m not alone. I carry with me my story, my family and my dreams — etched in ink and sung at the top of my lungs.
